This is one of those questions that seems simple but catches a lot of travelers off guard. Vietnam e-visa applications do not process on weekends. The immigration officers who review and approve applications work Monday through Friday, Vietnamese time, so any application submitted on a Friday evening won’t even be looked at until Monday.

I submitted my first application on a Thursday night thinking I’d have my visa by Sunday for a Monday flight. That was cutting it way too close. The application went into the queue Friday morning Vietnam time, processed over the weekend meant waiting until the following week. Always count only working days when calculating your expected approval date.

Here’s my rule of thumb: if you need your visa by a specific date, count backward 5 working days minimum and apply before that. This gives you the standard 3-day processing plus a small buffer for any unexpected delays or if your application needs additional review.
